Words With Jodie Harsh

Jodie Harsh is one of the most striking DJ’s to hit London-like ever! Circus, Harsh’s club night has become legendary with guest DJ’s such as Ladyhawke, Roisin Murphy, Amy Winehouse and bad girl Peaches! She has performed at Glasto, the Royal Festival Hall and has also carved an international career spinning records in showbiz bashes in the UK, America & Europe. She always looks super glam and likes a good pout and is snapped here wearing our studded play-suit!! We asked her a few playful questions of our own…

Where were you born?
On a lily pad. Not really, in Canterbury hospital in deepest darkest Kent.

Where do you live now?
Right in the centre of Shoreditch. I love the energy in East London, it's really inspiring. I lived in Soho and Camden before I made the move, but they don't cut it in comparison for me.

What's your favourite place in the world?
I love New York for the fast pace, Paris for the romantic vibes and London for my vibes. I also fell in love with South Africa when I went on safari there - it's such a beautiful place and I love the animals.

What makes you happy?
Music music music.

Who is the most fascinating person you have ever met?
Meeting Madonna was pretty great, but that was only a fleeting introduction. I wish I met my childhood hero Michael Jackson.

What's the most delicious food you have ever eaten?
I prefer a liquid diet. I'm really into Vitamin Water at the moment.

When was the last time you felt humbled?
Who's he?

When was the last time you were so happy you cried?
At my 25th birthday party, all my best friends were there and I got given a giant cake with my face on it.

What is the most outrageous thing you've ever done?
This is me you're talking to. I've done it all. Twice.

A White Story

Vogue Italia is the ultimate fashion magazine and we are digging this ghostly spectacle for April 2010 ‘A White Story’ - not surprisingly it’s all white!!

These surreal images were shot by photographer Paolo Roversi and are absolutely beautiful, since the 80’s his work has been subject to many exhibitions and books. The spread features major model Sasha Pivovarova a favourite of photographer Steven Meisel… simply stunning!

Donovan Pascal | Idol Design Director

Donovan is not only absolutely gorgeous but also has an innate knowing of what we want to be wearing on dance floors and on our daily missions. His designs are pure luxe rock-chic with a rough hand-craft quality, the signature: slashed, twisted, fused, woven, fringed, plaited and laddered! It’s no wonder the man has styled Prince and has also made pieces for the Rolling Stones for their 2003 Lick world tour!! His designs have been worn by Miss Moss, Keira Knightley, Beyonce and Agyness Deyn to name a few ladies who like to look London underground cool. Here we ask him what inspires his work, style and of course what he likes to do on his days off…

What do you think will be the hottest trend for this summer?
Light weight jump suits in flower, geometric or animal prints.

What are your three wardrobe staples?
A great fitting pair of jeans in a shade of blue or black, worn with a white fitted vest and a snug fitted leather jacket.

When did you first realise you wanted to become a designer and how did you get into it?
At the age of 15, I loved clothes and was always experimenting with new and different looks. I studied at the London College of Fashion.

What would your advice be for anyone who wants to break into the fashion world?
To succeed in the fashion world you have to have conviction in your design philosophy and not be distracted by what others are doing.

Which celebrity’s style do you admire?
I really like the way Shingai from the Noisettes dresses, she always looks great and has her own sense of effortless style.

What is your philosophy of fashion?
My philosophy of fashion is it’s great to know what’s on trend but it’s better to be unique and never let your clothes wear you.

What skills do you need to be a designer?
You need to be thick-skinned as your always trying to better your last collection and not everyone will like what you are doing all the time.

What would you be doing if weren’t a designer?
I have no idea what I would do if I wasn’t a fashion designer, I never had a plan B because I knew this was what I wanted to do.

Who inspires you?
I’m really inspired by Marc Jacobs, he’s great at what he does and seems a really cool guy. He also looks better as he gets older.

I wish people would take more notice of ...
…British new talent

I'm good at...
…making my friends laugh, I think it’s important to laugh everyday.

I'm bad at...
…talking on camera, but it gets easier the more you do it.

My ideal night out would be...
…hanging out on a summers evening with friends at the pool at Shoreditch House then coming back to mine for some after hours fun!

I relax by...
...by watching films, my favourites are big sci-fi blockbusters like Avatar, they take you on a journey to another world.

The best things in life are...
…friends, family and good health.

My next ambition is to ...
…make my Idol menswear really great!!!

IDOL STYLE ICON/ TOMOKO/CHERISHES HER IDOL RUFFLE SKULL PRINT TOP

I am a fashion designer/buyer and I've just moved to South of France/Cannes having escaped from a Crazy busy Tokyo life!! Life here is very relaxed and laid back, completely different from Tokyo and now I’m enjoying the sun, the sea and the lifestyle! (especially sipping the delicious local Rose wines!)

I absolutely adore this Idol Skull Print Top! Not only for the frill detail - a trend I wanted to experiment with this season but I also love the edgy skull print that balances with the prettiness of the fabric and the woven plaited side detail that is ultra feminine! These details compliment each other and it’s just perfect!!

I'm loving this top with my super smart Sarrouel Pants, I’m a big fan of the smart masculine look at the moment… but I also want to pretty-it-up with an ultra miniskirt, styled with a pair of Idol Fringe Trim Leggings this summer!

Style Editor Rocking Idol @ Mummy Rocks!!

The Mummy Rocks bash which was held to benefit London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for children was full of celebrities from Kate Moss, Natalie Imbruglia, Orlando Bloom, Bobby Gillespie, Tracey Emin and Mick Jones from The Clash. One of our favourite editors was there, Tiffanie Darke from Sunday Times Style adorning one of the pieces from our new collection, our Idol Butterfly Top/Dress. We adore this piece for it’s summery feeling, with it’s bold butterfly print, trendy scoop neck and are super thrilled that a top editor, who has access to all the very best international brands chose to wear us for the bash. Buy yours for just £25.00 NOT £2500!!! :)
