The Runaways

If you’re wondering what Kristen Stewart has been doing with herself since the end of Twilight, we may just have the answer.

Playing stylish rocker Joan Jett, Kristen stars in Runaways, a film about the all-girl rock group who shot to fame in the 1970s.

Dakota Fanning plays singer Cherie Currie, whose book ‘Neon Angel’ was the inspiration behind the film, which tells the story of one of the most iconic girl-bands in rock history.

The tagline, ‘It’s 1975 and they’re about to explode’ sums up the feel of the movie, with its depiction of teenage rebellion, coming-of-age storyline and a soundtrack to die for.

The Runaways were making rock and roll history before most of the band had turned 16, and the film shows the girls growing up in the spotlight, living the life most teenagers could only dream of.

The outfits are also worthy of rock-star status, with Kristen channeling Joan Jett’s black, shaggy hair-do down to a T, combined with smokey eye make-up, ripped denim shorts and leather jackets a-plenty.

Dakota Fanning goes for glam-rock, with denim play-suits, high-waisted jeans and chunky wedges, topped off with platinum blonde locks and aviator sunglasses. Think Kate Hudson in Almost Famous.

To prove how successful Dakota and Kristen were in portraying Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, the original band-members turned up to the premiere to check out the film for themselves, along with Idol favourite Debbie Harry. Jealous, us?

To perfect the Runaways’ grunge glamour, try pairing Idol’s Bleach Skinny Jean with the Chain Crop T-shirt, a vintage leather jacket and the Idol Biker Boots for rock-star style worthy of any mosh pit.

“We were the first girls to rock…and we didn’t the only way we knew how. On our own”

The Runaway’s is out on the 3rd September, go see!

What Became Of The Likely Lads?

It’s been a long time coming but Pete Doherty and Carl Barat of The Libertines are back together after six years and are making a special appearance at The Reading and Leeds festivals. Despite all the hell-raising this pair were a song-writing partnership made in heaven, with tunes like “What A Waster”, “Don’t Look Back Into The Sun” and “Up The Bracket”, no one can argue that this duo have a unique chemistry and we are super-charged about their come-back!

Meet Ramona, a 4 piece punk band hailing from Brighton, consisting of Charlie, Freddie, James and Karen Anne, who could easily pass as Debbie Harry with her platinum blonde do and bright red lips.

Could Ramona be 2010’s answer to Blondie? We certainly think so.

With two singles to their name, entitled ‘How Long’ and ‘Steve McQueen’, the foursome are set to release their debut album in 2011, and are currently touring the UK, having played at T in The Park this summer. They also have a 7" coming out at the beginning of September, so stay tuned!

US mag Nylon has already put it’s support behind the band, while here in the UK, Christopher Bailey of Burberry chose Ramona to perform an acoustic version of ‘How Long’ for the Burberry Acoustic Initiative, which encourages new British talent.

They were kitted out in Burberry for the performance, complete with Breton stripes and a good dose of English eccentricity. Watch the video on Ramona’s Myspace page.

Lead vocalist Karen Anne is already establishing herself as a true style icon, with her vintage jumpers, battered leather jackets and old-school converse, perfecting that 80s rock-chick look and ‘just got out of bed’ vibe.

With her pale complexion and messy bed-head hairdo, Karen’s effortless look is giving us serious style-envy!

Hoping to catch Ramona live? The band are playing in Camden Town on the 1st and 22nd of September so grab yourself a ticket.

Channel Karen Anne’s signature style by throwing on a pair of biker boots from Idol’s new collection, or pair a vintage t-shirt with the Idol Velvet Stud Jacket for a rock-chick look Ms Harry would be proud of.

Idol Muse/ Tomoko's Pregnancy Diary/ Post 1

Tomoko

I am a fashion designer/merchandiser, I’ve worked in London, Tokyo and other cities. Now, I live in Cannes, south of France, and I am pregnant with my second baby! I am now 3 months, my stomach is not shown yet. I’ve been having morning sickness (I don’t know who named it ‘morning’ sickness, well, it must be a man! Cuz, it’s not only morning, it’s all day!), actually I lost some weight ! (That’s only good thing about it). Well, talking about the good thing, my bra sizes gone up 3 sizes already! It’s crazy!

Anyway, even when I’m pregnant, I’d like to dress well! I absolutely adore this chiffon printed long dress! It’s just so beautiful and elegant! It is perfect for my evening out in Cannes with my husband and my little princess. As I waked down on La Croisette, people asked me where the dress is from! This dress makes you feel special!

Mimi

Hi, I am 5 year old girl, who loves FASHION! I style my outfits every morning and it’s such a hard work ! I like to match my clothes, accessories, hair styles, socks and shoes !

And I am the biggest fan for IDOL! And probably the youngest fan!? Well, my mother wears IDOL clothes all the time and I love them! I just cannot wait to grow up to wear them, so I styled my mother’s union jack printed T-shirt. I wore my pink tutu under the T-shirt and used black leather OBI belt to tie around my waist ! I matched with IDOL's zip wrist band and chain necklace. I love this rock ‘n’ girly look ! What do you think?

Material Girl’s 52nd Birthday!

Madonna’s birthday bash at Shoreditch House this Saturday was a blast. As always her daughter Lourdes looked very like her mother’s style back in the Eighties, she stepped out in an all-black mini dress and denim jacket, her only graphic accessory our very own Idol Union Jack bag!!! Lourdes is definitely flying our flag as this in not the first time she has stepped out in Idol threads. British celebs included Billie Piper and her husband Laurence Fox, TV presenter Claudia Winkleman and Paul Whitehouse, who were spotted arriving at Shoreditch at the same time. Happy Birthday Madge! x

Janelle Monae

Think Kelis meets Grace Kelly and you get an idea of what Kansas-born Janelle Monae is all about.

Dubbed “a different kind of diva” by Vogue magazine, Janelle’s new single ‘Tightrope’ stars number one artist B.O.B and R‘n’B legend Lupe Fiasco, both of whom the singer counts as best mates.

Janelle is also signed to P Diddy’s label, who describes her as being “one of the most important signings of my career.”

Dressed in her trademark black and white tuxedo designed by Thome Brown, Janelle’s androgynous style is catching the attention of the fashion industry, rivalling fellow pop-diva Rhianna.

Combined with her signature pompadour hairstyle and graphic make-up, Janelle puts her own spin on what it means to be feminine.

Janelle already has a Grammy-nominated album under her belt, while the newly released ‘The ArchAndroid’ boasts a huge 18 tracks, showing that the singer is eager to give her fans their money’s worth

Janelle describes The ArchAndroid as an “epic James Bond film in outer space; a mixture of “all the things I love — scores for films like Goldfinger mixed with albums I adore such as Stevie’s Music of my Mind and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust.”

Want Janelle’s signature style? Pair Idol’s Buckle Platform Boot with black, skinny jeans and a classic white shirt for that masculine edge. And don’t forget the big hair!

Androgynous Agyness

We adore Agyness Deyn’s bold buzz-cut hairstyle in this issue of V Magazine #67. Deyn omits pure punk whilst still maintaining a feminine fragility. The 90’s grunge styling in this shoot is brill we’re likin’ the big biker boots, oversized Fisherman jumper and hardcore silver accessories.

Agy is one of our favourite models and pulls off this style with ease, although some girls would find this ‘do’ a tad too daring she has the front and the bone structure! It’s no surprise that Agy has become an Idol to so many.

Drumming Up A Storm

Drummer and singer songwriter Florrie Arnold has taken the Internet music world by storm. She has worked up a large online fan base and Idol reckons she is set to be the new face of pop. Having worked for the likes of Cheryl Cole and Kylie, she has also drummed for the smash hit singles, ‘The Promise’, by Girls Aloud and ‘The Boy Does Nothing’ by Alesha Dixon.

Now on the verge of launching her solo career, Florrie prides herself on writing and playing her own music and even remixing her own songs. Florrie’s two new releases, ‘Call 911’ and ‘Panic Attack’ are free to download on her site. Also free to download are her singles remixed by producer Fred Falke, who is known for working with artists such as the incredible Jamiroquai. Florrie said she is inspired by Chuck Berry and Elvis and loves the 90’s era, taking inspiration from bands like The Spice Girls.

Not only is she set to becoming a new musical sensation, she is also the new face, and sound of the new Nina Ricci fragrance campaign. Florrie we are watching you…

La Vie Bohéme!

Unleash your bohemian side this summer.

Idol’s new collection is here. Mid-swing into the festival season, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Think loose, flowing shapes, and gypsy inspired pieces. Delicious summery shades of purple, mint green, and antique gold give a vintage, distressed feel.

Coveting Kate Moss’s festival wardrobe? Kit yourself out in the paisley print chiffon play-suit and bag yourself a back stage pass.

Make like Coco Sumner and Taylor Momsen and go grunge with the Idol biker boots. Pair with an oversized crop-top and washed out denim to give a nod to 1990s rock.

Or mix it up with a sheer, sexy maxi dress for romantic glamour meets grunge princess. Think Kirsten Dunst in The Virgin Suicides for that 70s vibe.

Abroad or at home, our kaftan dresses can be thrown over any bikini or paired with on-trend denim shorts for that beach-to-bar look.

Old meets new with our beaded day dresses, inspired by hippy embroidery, while sporty shapes and inter-galactic designs bring this look into the 21st century

Best of all, body-con is back, and idol’s liquid black figure-hugging dresses will ensure all eyes are on you when you hit the dance floor.

Make like Moss and grab a tambourine while dancing barefoot to your favourite summer tunes.

Marvin The Magnificent

Marvin is such a lovely guy we just want to squeeze him forever ‘n’ ever. Look at him here wearing the first ever Idol menswear sample, how adorable. Not only is he perfectly pretty but he’s so polite, honestly our mums would want to cook him Shepherds pie and blackberry crumble all day long.

We were thrilled that Meggan and Abbie Walder won our competition, they had a fantastic time at the JLS concert and got to meet the boyz in person. Here, as promised we ask Marvin some pressing questions, including the winning one from Meggan. (Be prepared to melt with aahhs)!

P.S The winning question is the very last (bravo Meggan!) x

Your first 2 singles went to number one in the UK Singles Charts, tell us how that experience feels?

It is absolutely incredible and truly is a dream come true. It's the stuff you dream about when you're young and for it to actually materialise is just amazing!

What’s the most humorous comment a fan has made to you?

One fan wanted me to sign some stained boxer shorts??? Very strange (I didn't FYI!)

Tell us your guiltiest pleasure?

Microwave popcorn. Can eat it all day, even the little bits of corn that don't pop, I chew them too

What music do you listen to when you unwind?

Classical and Opera. My most favourite piece of music to chill out to is either The Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet or Caruso by Luciano Pavarotti

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?

Have to be Michael Jackson. I was so close to meeting him so many times but always missed the opportunity. I don't think I'd be able to say anything, he would've been the one person that I would definitely have been star struck by!

Do you wear boxers or briefs?

Trunks! You know they're like boxers but without buttons on and they hold everything in!

In an interview what question would you like to be asked?

Do you think that supermarkets should start selling Lucky Charms cereals again? Answer would be YES !!!!

Who is hot?

That girl from the Saturdays...the tall mixed race one... Can't remember her name.

If you ruled the world, what would you do?

Make it compulsory that at the beginning of everybody's day you have to go on a rollercoaster
